Excursions
We can organize all manner of excursions – a waterfall where you will to cool off in a magical pool, a thermal mud pool with its warm rejuvenating waters, a snorkel trip in our boat to the outer reef, a lesson in hydro-foiling, a birdwatching trip to see the rare silktail, a visit to a nearby village where you can enjoy the thunderous meke dance!
Snorkelling excursions – in our boat
We’ll take you out in our boat to the outer coral reefs – we visit the sites both inside the bay and just outside on the outer edge of the Lesciaceva Reef. The coral is abundant and healthy, and there is a profusion of marine life – anthias, clown fish, parrot fish, sweetlips, birdnosed wrasse, gaimard wrasse, sergeant majors, bream. We sometimes see reef sharks and occasionally turtles and eagle rays. It takes about 20 minutes in the boat, and we’ll stay in the water for about 45 minutes (depending on how long you want to be in). Price: from F$80 per person; minimum 2.
Snorkeling excusrions off the beach
There are a few excellent snorkel spots down the coast – we’ll take you down (about 10 minutes) and one of our staff will swim out with you to show you the reefs. Price: from F$45 per person for two / F$60 for one.
Waterfalls: Vuadomo and Maroya (Nakawaqa)
Two magnificent waterfalls! Both are approx. 30 mins drive. Vuadomo is more easily accessed along a relatively flat path – 10/12 mins walk. Maroya is approached up a beautiful path through the rain forest – it takes about 230 minutes.
Thermal mud pool
Hidden away just off the road to Labasa, the thermal mud pool of Levuka Koro is a great place to relax and rejunenate. Below the warm waters of the pool lies the rich black mud that locals tell you will knock ten years off your appearance!
Naweni sacred prawns
Come and visit the pool deep in the forest where the red prawns of Naweni are found. Your guide will take you through a track in the bush and along the beach, through a narrow path in a mangrove stand and finally to the pool where they are found. He will tell you the legend behind them, and chant a song asking them to show themselves .
Wear decent outdoor shoes or reef boots that can get wet and cope with moderately rough terrain. Bring a snorkel and mask if you’d like to jump into the lagoon on the way back.
From F$85 per person (minimum 2) – includes transport. Approx. 4 hours round trip.
Birdwatching
Our island, Vanua Levu, is home to a large number of birds, including the rare silktailwhich is found in the eastern end of the island. We offer a flexible programme over 2 days which can be done whenever you want. This includes a full day (7/8 hours) trip to Vusaratu, home of both the silktail and the endangered Natewa swallowtail butterfly which was only discovered in 2017. We leave at 5.00 am and we’re back around 1.00 pm. On the other day, we go to a private estate: the trip takes 3 to 4 hours.
